Premiere I 2018 Task Force

Rick Arndt
My wife, Shannon and I, have been fortunate enough to share in 40 years of marriage. Together we have 3 adult children, all whom have spouses, and 3 granddaughters. We all frequent the Luxus portfolio regularly. Luxus has afforded our family with immense opportunity for quality vacations together over the years.

I am a registered Architect, and have been in architectural practice since 1980. I have a broad range of award winning Architectural experience, from large urban planning commissions, commercial/retail and industrial developments, to multi-family residential developments and luxury custom residential designs in Canada and the United States. I am now semi-retired, and as well as now selectively completing architectural commissions, I have turned my focus to real estate development which I have been actively involved in for over 30 years . On a community note, I led the design and construction of the $88M Art Galley of Alberta, an 8-year volunteer extremely rewarding effort.

My wife and I, are world travelers and have visited North America, Europe and Central America, and enjoy a retirement home in Palm Springs.  I have a passion for design, real estate, and travel. I believe this expertise and unique experience can positively assist the 2018 task force and i very much look forward to this opportunity to give back.

Dee Bateman
Dee Bateman’s family is a Diamond Founder Premiere Collection Owner. Dee and her partner Greta, along with their three children have been strong supporters of the Luxus concept. They love to entertain and have found that the beautifully appointed houses stock everything that they need. Being part of the Luxus group has resulted in them taking regularly scheduled vacations, which is a welcome reprieve from their busy lives as owners of the Wild Earth Bakery & Café chain.

Dee holds a BA from Queen’s University in Kingston, and a LLB from the University of Alberta, and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1994. She immediately left the law to work in the family business, Bateman’s IGA. She has been an entrepreneur ever since.

Dee has always had a passion for travel, studying abroad on numerous occasions. She has travelled to over seventeen countries, and plans to continue exploring the world. That interest in travel has continued with her ownership in Luxus, and the opportunity to share travel with family and friends alike.

Darryl Boessenkool
I am very excited to be joining the Luxus Group Task Force. My wife Anna and I, along with our 2 children, have been a part of Luxus since 2007. We have had many incredible vacation experiences over the years, and we really enjoy the variety and quality of the Luxus properties.

I am a proud born and raised “Edmontonian” and in my role as COO of the Oilers Entertainment Group, I am working on the one of the most transformative projects in Edmonton’s history with the Rogers Place/ICE District development. I will bring an open mind to the Task Force that will provide an Investors voice to the exciting next chapter of Luxus, with the goal to endorse a program that meets the needs of all the current Luxus investors.

Kara Claypool
Kara leads the Finance, Administration, Communication and Human Resources teams at Travel Alberta in the capacity of Vice President, Finance and Corporation Operations. Kara, a CMA designated financial professional, has been a leader in entrepreneurial minded companies with a strong growth vision and has been integral in aligning and leading team efforts to achieve the company’s overall strategic objectives.  In 2011, Kara was named one of Calgary's Top 40 Under 40, and in 2012, named Top 10 Rising Stars Under 40 by Alberta Venture magazine.

Kara and her husband, Kelly Krall, are parents to their children Josie, age 13 and Kye, age 11.  As a family, they have a philosophy that ‘you only live once’ so their passion for travel and experiencing new adventures in an effort to create memories is a core value for their family. Their favorite Luxus destination is Kona, Hawaii.  Many hours have been spent having fun and sharing lots of laughs while chasing adventures such as boogie boarding at Hapuna Beach, which has been voted best all time beach by Josie and Kye!  Kara is delighted to contribute to the Premiere I Task Force and offer her experience and background to assist with the 2018 strategy development, while also meeting a personal growth goal to volunteer in an advisory capacity on a strategy-led board or committee.

Terry Hillaby
Hello everyone my name is Terry Hillaby and I am a Luxus junkie! Really I am and so are my two sons Josh age 25 and Troy 27 and my two sisters and two brothers, we are all Luxus junkies. We have had many incredible Luxus property family vacations and I truly wonder how we survived prior to Luxus. We live in St. Albert and I stay active by running and biking and going to the gym. I am on a few Boards and the one that takes the most time is a charity doing aid work in Ethiopia.

When I am not at a Luxus property I work for Tetra Tech EBA a consulting engineering firm and have worked with them my entire career. The firm has about 800 employees working from 12 offices in Western and Northern Canada. I started working in a technical role in geotechnical engineering, worked in the arctic for many years and moved to the finance area about 10 years ago.  I have now stepped back from my CFO role and only work a few days per week looking after our office leases and a few other support group areas.

I love the Luxus lifestyle of travel and the ability to share it with my family. I am looking forward to working on the task force to help ensure that the next Luxus chapter will be as good  or even better than the first 10 years. I am very passionate about Luxus and have felt like part of the Luxus family for many years now. I see the 2018 horizon event as an great opportunity to structure Premier 1 for the future and to add even more value to Luxus owners.

Brian Lacey
As one of the first investors in Luxus nearly a decade ago, the introduction to “lifestyle travel” was a game changer for my family and I.  My wife of 22 years and I, along with our 21 year old daughter and 18 year old son have experienced such wonderful travel experiences, along with friends and family.

I am Vice-President Construction with Clark Builders, and welcome the leisure that Luxus provides. As one of the original Board Members, I look forward to seeing the initial offering come full circle, and my ability to participate in the Task Force is appreciated.

Kurt Middleton
Our family joined Premiere I in 2012 and we reside in Calgary.  I am currently the CFO of an oil and gas company.  With three young children and busy professional lives we have many happy memories across the Luxus portfolio.   The 2018 Task Force is an important opportunity for me to both understand the strategic options and contribute to the successful transition of the Premiere I Partnership.

Rick Schroter
Rick Schroter and his wife Susan formed their first partnership 34 years ago and joined Luxus in 2008 when Susan decided she wanted to be in a partnership with less work and more fun.  Susan and Rick have four outstanding children, two by birth and two by marriage.  Their daughter Amanda (formerly a Luxus employee) and husband Kyle, son Darryl and daughter in law Dayna have blessed them with three grandsons (4 year old Jayden, 2 year old Landon and 9 month old James) to keep Susan and Rick active in their golden years.  Together they have enjoyed many wonderful Luxus vacations and there will be more since Jayden and Landon have been asking for the past four months to go back to the Hawaii house.

Prior to retiring in 2014, Rick was Director of Tax for TELUS and hopes his experience will help contribute to optimum restructuring of the partnership for the benefit of all Luxus partners.   Rick appreciates the opportunity to be involved on the Task Force because he is extremely grateful to be a partner in Luxus and fulfill their retirement dream of enjoying first class vacations with family and friends.

Jessica Deckert-Sookram, 2016-2018 Luxus Advisory Board Member
My husband, Sunil, and I joined Luxus in August 2015 after many of our friends and colleagues finally convinced us it would be a great fit for us. And they were right! We love to travel (in fact, I am writing this bio from Chile as we speak). Now that we have three children (Findlay (6), Scarlett (4) and Imogen (18 months)), Luxus properties and destinations work well for us when we want a hassle-free, sunny getaway. Aside from being a proud Mom, I am a nurse practitioner and I work with four great family physicians on the south side of Edmonton. I have a passion for immigrant health and volunteer with one of the refugee clinics in the city regularly. I also sit on the board for my daughter’s preschool and have been taking Spanish classes for the past year. I’m happy to add the Luxus Advisory Board to my plate as I feel very fortunate to have such amazing opportunities to travel to these beautiful properties and spend quality time with my family. I look forward to getting to know more Luxus members over the next couple of years!
